Residential Social Services

Cedarways Residential Child Care works closely with families, NHS professionals, and all those involved directly in care provisions for children and young people with learning or physical disabilities, learning difficulties, complex health needs, autism and challenging behaviour. Our social services take time to properly understand the distinctive physical and emotional needs of every child and their families before recommending a new home.

A Place That Feels Like Home

We offer a comfortable, homely environment where, with adequate care and dedicated support, every child and young person can regain stability and positive feelings such as self-worth, confidence, empathy and clarity of purpose. Security and stability can help the child articulate his or her views without fear of being judged or rejected. This approach fosters their healing, by learning how to express, control, and talk through their emotions with their peers and carers.

Our team strategically plans therapeutic interventions and provision of care based on each child and young person’s unique needs. We take time to explore every issue that affects our looked-after children and provide a nurturing environment in which they can fulfil their potential, find their natural inclinations and be guided towards pathways that support their growth.

The interests, well-being and future of every child and young person are at the heart of what we do. We have integrated the Government’s ‘Every Child Matters’ framework into our day-to-day activities, which are used as an opportunity to closely understand the difficulties the children are going through, and to proactively seek ways of interpreting their behaviour, their needs and aspirations, so that we can provide the environment they require.

We offer one-to-one care and continuous support in the development of children and adolescents in our care, and we achieve positive outcomes and tangible results by:

5

  • Balancing the needs of the individual child or young person while expanding the social dynamics of the community in which they live, with the purpose of helping every child acquire skills and independence which contributes to a positive transition into adulthood

  • Providing every child with educational and learning opportunities that enables them to discover their potential and self-worth

  • Implementing an active approach which supports and encourages children to participate in a range of stimulating social and leisure activities

  • Fostering the development and improvement of daily living skills

  • Encouraging contact with family and others in accordance with their care plan

  • Taking the emotional needs and wishes of every child or adolescent into account when planning their care

  • Understanding and addressing individual needs in terms of age, gender, race, sexuality and disability, as well as meeting specific cultural and religious needs

  • Providing the opportunity for every young person to experience stability, a sense of belonging, and the ability to explore and celebrate their own identity

  • Supporting every child to learn the skills they need to move on positively to adult living

Our staff at Cedarways have a shared ambition to respond in the most caring way to challenges that arise from their interactions with children and adolescents coming from adverse backgrounds. They create therapeutic experiences which effectively address the problems encountered by young people when trying to overcome barriers, adapt and be active members of their new community. Fostering the identification of their interests leads to an ongoing process of growth, by involving them in activities they genuinely enjoy.
